Academic Inter-municipal Debate Tournament

  • 22/05/2019

Several days ago, a team composed of 4ºESO students had the great opportunity of participating in the 7th Edition of the Inter-municipal Academic Debate Tournament hosted by the The Francisco de Vitoria University. The tournament counted with a total of 50 participating teams addressing the issue regarding whether or not animal testing in scientific investigation should be banned or not.

During the tournament, as members of Retamar’s team, (Juan Soldevilla, in charge of introducing the team and its views, Juan Torre de Silva, first refuter, Juan Conde, in charge of giving the concluding speech, Mateo Alum, captain, and Juan Vázquez, second refuter), we had the opportunity to debate against teams coming from other schools. It was incredible to realize how well we were all able to improve and strengthen our debating skills throughout the tournament.

Furthermore, we realized that the three months of hard work, dedication and perseverance with the guidance of Don Pablo Méndez paid off as we found ourselves in the final round of the tournament!

During the final round, Retamar’s two teams gave it all and after a long and intense debate we were informed of the results. Even though we came in second place we were very happy and satisfied with our great achievement! This experience has allowed us to build up our debating skills in addition to many other transversal skills which we will surely use throughout our lives.

We look forward to participating in another debate tournament of similar characteristics and are very thankful for having been given the opportunity to benefit from such a wonderful experience!
