International Exchanges
The relationship with other schools and institutions is a fundamental point of the internationality of the education imparted at Retamar. Joint actions with English-speaking institutions occupy a prominent place. We have been doing the third trimester in Ireland for many years, but in recent years we have notably increased this type of activity, which now includes periods in London, Washington, Johannesburg and Chicago.
TERM IN IRELAND
For students of 5th Primary, 6th Primary and 1st ESO. It develops during the third trimester. The objective is to learn English by immersion and everything that derives from daily living with people from another culture.
Rockbrook Internacional School organices the stay of our students in Dublin families and they look for schools so that they attend classes in Irish schools as one of their own.
TERM IN ENGLAND (LONDON)
In the 2013/14 academic year we reached an agreement with PACT Schools (London), which run four private schools in London. These schools have spiritual care from Opus Dei priests. Since then, we send students to their schools and to the families they select. This way, we continue to increase the number of students who spend the last term in a foreign school.
It is also aimed for the participation of students of 5th Primary, 6th Primary and 1st ESO.
EXCHANGE WITH THE HEIGHTS SCHOOL (WASHINGTON D.C.)
To strengthen the knowledge of English in 2nd year of ESO, we have established a line of collaboration with this school. The Retamar students who participate in the program go to class at The Heights School for three weeks, each one living with the family of a student from the same course; the following month it is the student from The Heights who comes to Retamar, living in the other's house. Another group of students does the reverse, beginning their stay in Madrid and later in Washington. It takes place between the months of January and March.
EXCHANGE WITH ST. DAVID MARIST INANDA SCHOOL (JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA)
Oriented to students who carry out 3rd year of ESO. Retamar students spend four weeks in St. David, during the month of June. St. David students will stay in Retamar for four weeks, during the month of October or November.
OTHER STAYS IN THE UNITED STATES
Retamar students have the opportunity to participate in some language immersion programs organized by American schools. The student lives with a trusted family selected by the host school and attends school classes normally during the day. The school assigns each student a tutor who coordinates their academic program and the rest of the activities during their stay there - cultural trips, sports, etc.–. For example: Northridge Preparatory School (Chicago) (8-week program), The Heights School (Washington DC) (4-week program).
With other schools we also have different collaboration programs. We highlight the activities carried out with Tak Sun Secondary School (Hong Kong). On several occasions, our students have lived together with a group of thirty students from this prestigious Chinese educational center, constituting an immersion in both English and Chinese culture.
