New Olympic Medals: two bronzes at the Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad

  • 23/10/2021

Last year our students played an important role in the national phase of the Chemistry Olympiad: among the top five in Spain were three from Retamar: Javier Sánchez-Bonilla, Marcos Bautista and Álvaro Salazar; these last two participated one year younger than the rest of the students. Gonzalo Sastre was on the verge of being among the top ten, being one year younger.

The organization asked Retamar at the beginning of September that the Ibero-American tests (which this year have been online) be held in our school, since two of the students who were present at the contest, Álvaro and Marcos, are from the school and the third participant could be close to doing the tests. The experimental part was held on Saturday, October 2nd, and the theoretical part on Tuesday, October 5th, with a duration of ten hours between the two exams.

The results could not have been better. The three representatives of Spain obtained bronze medals. Marcos (17th) and Álvaro (14th), have the opportunity to present themselves again this year to the Olympics and to represent our country again in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) and in the Ibero-American Olympiad (OIAQ) next year. They have a whole academic year ahead of them to prepare and return to leave Spain and Retamar at the top of an international competition. Good luck and congratulations!
